Window Tint Violation Leads to Meth Arrests
A traffic stop for a window tint violation and an anonymous tip last week landed two behind bars on various drug-related charges, according to an arrest report on file at the Rhea County Sheriff’s Department.
According to Rhea County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Cody Massey, Steven Hale and Miranda Jordan are facing the charges after investigators received a tip that the two were planning on buying methamphetamine.
At around 5:15 p.m., Massey said that investigators initiated a traffic stop in the area of Cranmore Cove Road for a suspected window tint violation.
“Upon contact with the driver, Steven Hale, and passenger, Miranda Jordan, a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle,” Massey said. “Mr. Hale appeared to be intoxicated while speaking with him. Mr. Hale’s eyes were red and bloodshot.”
Massey said that both Hale and Jordan were then asked to step out of the vehicle.
“Mrs. Jordan was screaming and tensing up her arms and body, refusing all commands to get out of the vehicle,” Massey said. “Mrs. Jordan refused numerous commands to step out of the vehicle, at which time she had to be forcefully removed from the vehicle. Once out of the vehicle, Mrs. Jordan refused to put her hands behind her back. After a brief struggle, Mrs. Jordan was placed into handcuffs.”
Upon search of the vehicle, Massey said investigators found digital scales, a marijuana grinder and a marijuana pipe. Investigators then placed the two under arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Massey said that when Jordan was being processed at the Rhea County Justice Center, upon intake, corrections officers found two plastic bags on Jordan’s person, one allegedly containing methamphetamine and the other allegedly containing fentanyl.
Jordan was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with the intent to resale, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of probation. Hale was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with the intent to resale and violation of the financial responsibility law.
